My name is Patrick Madden and Signature Yarns is my online yarn store combined with my "by appointment" studio in Toronto, Ontario for in-person shopping and teaching.
My studio is by appointment only so please call ahead to book a time.
By appointment allows you the time of day to visit that works for your schedule and allows me to provide a relaxed shopping experience and the level of customer service my clientele expect of me. I am most happy to accommodate individuals and groups of up to 6 people. Yarn crawls and visitors from out of town are always welcome!
Signature Yarns is conveniently located in Toronto's west end near Islington and Kipling subway stations, Longbranch Go Transit station, with proximity to Highways 401, 427, Gardiner Expressway and QEW. Pearson International Airport and local hotels are just 10 minutes away and I offer complimentary car service to transit stations and hotels. Free parking is provided onsite for those driving.
I am happy to welcome you to my inviting and spacious working studio where I offer a personalized shopping experience with large tables, comfy chairs for you to sit and relax, review yarn choices and knitting pattern selections. You will find plenty of model garments to inspire you and for you to try on. Complimentary tea and coffee are always waiting.
At my studio you can explore with all your senses my beautiful selection of hand dyed and quality yarns, including Prism, Blue Heron, Americo Original, Rowan, Trendsetter, Lana Grossa, Malabrigo and more.
I offer a selection of classic yarn weights including Lace, Sock yarn, 4 Ply Fingering, Double Knitting, Aran, Chunky and Bulky categories and I am recognized for my very unique selection of luxury hand dyed fibres from Prism and Blue Heron, as well as my support of local design talent, including the Robin Hunter pattern collection.
My studio space is where I teach both hand and machine knitting lessons and workshops of all skill levels, as well as providing personal fittings and pattern alteration services.
I focus on teaching private knitting lessons and I offer workshops of up to a maximum of 6 people. This allows for very focused learning and for me to tailor my classes to teaching you the skills required to make and finish a project that you will be proud of and want to wear.
In addition to hand knitting I am one of the few yarn stores in Canada that offer lessons on the operation of home knitting machines, including Singer, Brother, Studio, Knitmaster, Silver Reed, White, Passap and Superba brands. More information for machine knitting lessons can be found using this link.
I continue to build and improve this website daily and I invite you to have a look around at my yarn collections, at the Product Focus page for features and new arrivals, my Signature Style Blog highlighting knitwear forecasting and trending influences and my upcoming regional yarn show appearances. Please check back often as new products and features are added.
ABOUT PATRICK MADDEN
I have been knitting all my life having grown up in the yarn and fabric business working at my mother's sewing and knitting shops in Goderich and Exeter, Ontario.
My love of textiles and fashion comes from my mother Genevieve who introduces me to hand and machine knitting in my teens. As a young adult I studied knitwear design at Sheridan, College in Oakville, Ontario, followed by years of working at various knitting mills as a technician and assistant designer.
I have worked at various yarn stores throughout southern Ontario where I have taught both hand and machine knitting lessons of all skill levels and in September of 2014 I started my online yarn store and teaching studio Signature Yarns.
My training, education and garment industry work experience, combined with my custom knitting service and having worked at my local yarn store for years, makes me most proficient in all aspects of both hand and machine knitting.
Volunteering in my community is very important to me. I like to give back in any way I can to my home community, to my city, my province, my country. I come from a family of givers so this comes naturally.
I currently volunteer as the 2017 Chair of the Burlington Machine Knitting Guild, and I serve as Communications Executive for the Toronto Knitters Guild, as well as a moderator of various knitting groups on Ravelry. I also provide a free information blog titled Superba Knitting, for owners of Superba knitting machines made in France.
I bring a wealth of experience and information regarding knitting, accessories, techniques, garment construction, finishing and making garments that fit and I like to think I am a great teacher!
I look forward to you contacting me about any of my products, classes, public speaking or to book your next personal shopping date at the studio.
You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or please contact me by phone at 416-795-5500 between the hours of 8am-8pm daily, EST.
I thank you for your support of me and of my business.
